Ben's Story

Ben

Moving to Sunningdale from my previous home I had begun to learn some social skills such as putting words together and doing some basic arithmetic. I was also supported and taught how to control my anger and behaviour.

The team here are continuing my development – helping me to cook, bake and do jobs around the home. I am becoming more independent and my behaviour is more controlled, which means I can do a lot more for myself. My key worker and manager review my care plan all the time so that I know what I can achieve. I also have a structure to my week.

One of my hobbies is Open Country, a volunteer project which I go to with other people from the home and staff in the countryside. We do things like plant trees and dry stone walling – I am really proud of my certificate that I received to thank me for my help. I’ve made some good friends from the group and enjoy the chance to meet people.

My future plans are to one day live in a home with fewer people and I am working with the staff to get myself ready.
