FAQs
What does it cost and who pays?
The cost for each home depends upon the individual. Social Services and the local health authority will share the cost of providing care, although the amount will be means tested and is dependent on the individual's package of care needs. The government body Commission for Social Care Inspection (www.csci.org.uk) is also very informative.
Who should I contact?
Your first point of call should be your GP or social worker. If you require additional information please contact your local social services, some of which are listed below:

How do I secure a place in one of the homes?
The best route is to contact your local Social Services but feel free to contact us directly to discuss in more detail.
The government body Commission for Social Care Inspection (www.csci.org.uk) is also very informative and on their site you can see a list of homes in your local area.
What is included within the care package?
Franklin Homes provides all-inclusive accommodation encompassing all meals, laundry, all household bills and day-trips as well as additional bought-in services such as occupational therapy and homeopathy as outlined in each person's individual care-plan. All service users benefit from the expertise of our own Consultant Psychologist, who works with the home team to build the most appropriate package of care for each individual.
Can someone come for a short-term stay?
Yes, depending on availability. We actively encourage our potential clients to come to us temporarily to understand how we work and to ensure they are happy. We welcome informal meetings with fellow clients and staff members before coming to stay so that the transition is as smooth as possible.
What activities are there at the homes?
All homes have their own transport to take clients on day trips, to the local shops or to run errands. Many are involved in external activities such as dry-stone walling, community country side activities, work placements and attending fitness classes. Each home is stocked with a range of games and arts and crafts equipment and some have regular DVD nights.
Can families visit whenever they want?
Absolutely. We encourage families to phone in advance to prevent any upset to a client's routine and friends and relatives are free to come and stay as long as they wish during the day. Equally, we are happy to arrange nearby overnight accommodation for those keen to visit for longer periods. Our four homes are located in attractive tourist areas which provide ample pursuits for visitors to enjoy.
Can residents visit their own families?
Indeed. The transport at each home means we are delighted to take clients to their family - no matter in England they live.
How independent are the residents?
Many of our clients require structure and routine in order to maintain their anxieties and stresses. Our aim is to stimulate independence for each of our clients - some of whom holiday on their own or go on their own trips away from the home. For others independence is looking after their own money or cooking their dinner - each client is provided a plan to enable to reach their goals.

Would Franklin Homes accept residents with a criminal record?
While we are not a specialist ex-offenders care provider, we understand that sometimes those with learning disabilities and mental health issues including autism and Asperger's syndrome, have committed crimes. We assess each potential client on an individual basis and carefully examine the impact on the safety and rights of our existing service users. Our experience in supporting those with a criminal record demonstrates that our empathetic and powerful approach reaps significant results for all our clients.
